09-Nov-2018 09:27

Martyn Wyndham-Read is one of our best known and respected folk singers. His laid-back, hypnotic style never fails to relax and enthral his audiences. He is also an acknowledged expert on Australian song.

Even though he is an Englishman, Martyn is one of Australian folk song's greatest ambassadors. He has spent more than 50 years playing music absorbed from the musical tradition of drovers, bush workers, and cane cutters. His love of traditional Aussie folk songs was first nurtured when he spent seven years there as a bush worker before returning to the UK in '67.

He has recorded over 30 albums and appeared on several more over a period of thirty-five or so years.

Martyn seems to know them all the many beautiful songs from Australia.

"I immerse myself in them completely, it's like living the story. They take me back and when I sing them I can experience that smell of the outback, the shearing, everything."
