27-Dec-2017 10:36

Ninebarrow are a multi-award-winning acoustic folk duo, who have been impressing audiences with their innovative and captivating take on the folk tradition since forming in 2012.

Poole-based Jon Whitley (vocals, organ, ukulele, tenor, octave mandola, piano) and Jay LaBouchardiere (vocals, reed organ) combine breathtaking vocal harmonies and melodies, delivering original songs inspired and rooted in the landscape and history of the British Isles.

Their stories behind their songs combine the music with history, folklore and storytelling.

As well as crafting unique and engaging original material, Ninebarrow also take a wide range of traditional folk songs and rework them in their own, distinctive way.

They have been delighting audiences with their simply beautiful melodies and harmonies.

Ninebarrow, nominees in the Best Emerging Artist category at the 2017 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, take their name from Ninebarrow Down, an ancient archaeological site, one of the Purbeck Hills.

Their debut album "While The Black Thorn Burns" (2014) received high praise from reviewers.

Wide-spread critical acclaim for Ninebarrow’s second album, "Releasing the Leaves" (2016) included five stars in the English Dance and Song Magazine produced by the EFDSS.

‘Another example of how strong British folk music is at the moment.’  The Telegraph.
