Rab Noakes and Jill Jackson at Croydon Folk Club on Monday 15th October, 8:15
04-Oct-2018 00:41

Over 50 years since he first performed professionally, and more than 20 albums later Rab Noakes remains a vital, popular, prolific and acclaimed songwriter and performer.

His latest album, 'Welcome to Anniversaryville', with songs like The Handwash Feein’ Market railing against the gig economy, the plight of immigrants and the continuing struggle against racism in the US and elsewhere is considered his finest ever.

Jill Jackson embarked on a solo career after singing with the rock band, Speedway.

She moved away from that genre to develop an authentic Americana musical style releasing her true talents. 'Are We There Yet', her 5th solo album combines innovative, playful arrangements that wouldn't sound out of place in Lindy Hop or Harlem.

The gleeful, melodic choruses are delivered in Jill’s unmistakable warm and heart-wrenching voice.

Although a generation apart, Rab and Jill have worked and sung together for over 20 years. Expect a rich collection of songs - self-penned alongside innovative interpretations. Each of them is an enthusiastic collaborator as well as an accomplished soloist. The combination of their voices, their wit and their obvious and infectious love of singing shows the value of how different experiences can make a whole that’s more than the sum of the parts.
