Nick Marshall will be returning to Croydon Folk Club as Our Guest on Monday Night, 8th April,8:15
21-Mar-2019 00:34

Nick Marshall is a talented singer, songwriter and guitarist.

His calm stage-presence and a delivery showing a self-deprecating manner combine with a wit and a knowledgeable grasp of a wide range of subjects to make his performance entertaining, interesting and informative.

For many years, Nick, now living in Ambleside, was a popular performer at Croydon Folk Club where he sang and played his own compositions.

He has made three albums, 'Thicker Than Water', 'The Final Straw' and 'Views from the Gramper Van'. These have all been well-received for the quality of the song-writing and the huge range of topics and styles they covered.

Over the years, Nick has played in various bands.

In bands such as "Collision" and "Bright Spark", he contributed much in terms of writing, arranging and playing. In 1984, he was a founder member of "The Throwbacks", playing classic 50s and 60s songs.

In more recent times he has been playing solo gigs presenting his own material.

His writing has been central to his music from the start. His poignant and hard-hitting lyrics range from things inspired by family, events, books through to politics.

Nick has also composed many stylish instrumentals.

Although Nick’s main instrument is the guitar, particularly the acoustic guitar, he also plays mandolin, mandola, bass and keyboards.

Nick says that has been playing and writing for more years than he cares to remember (does he mean, 'that he can remember?')
