With constant busy schedules and the summer holidays coming up, childcare is increasingly on the minds of parents.  You may be asking: where are the nearest childcare services, are they flexible, are they convenient, are they affordable?  FUNtastic Kids Club may just have the answer.

FUNtastic Kids Club is a new family-run business, providing flexible childcare for children between the ages of 5-12 in the Croydon borough, which will be based in Project B.  It aims to meet the demand and pressures on parents who are working and/or studying.

The business was started by Nikita Williams, with the support of her mum (who will be doing the cooking) and her sister (who will be the manager) – “We’re a family-run business so there’s always that security,” Nikita says.

When asked what the inspiration was for FUNtastic Kids Club, Nikita said: “I was a young parent myself... and when I was studying and working, it was so difficult to find childcare in the morning and the evenings.”  She also says that there was nothing in central Croydon, which is why she chose Project B as the location.

During term time, FUNtastic Kids Club starts earlier than most breakfast clubs, starting at 6:45am and running until 9:00am, as well as a later closer time, with the afterschool club running from 3:00pm to 7:00pm.  There will also be school drop offs and school pickups (the current local school pickups are listed on their website).

Children who arrive before 8:30am will receive breakfast, and children who are still at the afterschool club after 5:30pm will receive dinner – vegetarian, vegan and halal options will be available.  Healthy eating is championed, with children being encouraged to eat as much fruit and vegetables as possible – they’ll even be making their own fruit smoothies and snacks during the holiday club.

The holiday club will be open from 7am-7pm, “packed with fun activities”, which include a range of workshops, day trips and local outings.  Their workshops include arts and crafts, cooking, sports and drama.  Nikita says, “We’ve got a fun ethos and aim to encourage Key Stage 1 and 2 development.”

One of the things that Nikita expresses is their affordable prices.  Prices for the breakfast and afterschool club start at £4.50 per hour, while prices for the holiday club are £3.50 per hour for a minimum 4hr session.  All staff are also qualified and DBS checked, creating a safe and reliable environment for children.

Nikita is currently trying to build the brand, as well as “a good, reliable childcare service”.  However, in the long-term, she says, “My hope is to have a few branches of FUNtastic Kids Club.”

FUNtastic Kids Club will be holding an Arts and Crafts Launch Party on Saturday July 23rd, from 1:30-4:30pm in Project B (3-7 Middle Street, Croydon, CR0 1RE).  Through the launch, Nikita wants to encourage support from the local community, although it is especially for families with children aged 5-12.  So come along, learn a little more about this great new service in Croydon and have a “FUNtastic” time with your children.
